The NDP candidate for Kootenay East Norma Blissett is welcoming her party’s leader to the East Kootenay this weekend.
Blissett said Adrian Dix will be holding two public events for constituents to come out and hear what he and the NDP party have to offer heading into the next provincial election in May.
“We’d like to see as many people as possible meet Adrian and see what he has to say,” Blissett said.
The first event will be a Leader’s Reception at the Prestige Inn Ballroom in Cranbrook from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday. The tickets for that event are $100 and are limited to ensure all guests have a chance to meet with Dix. For tickets, email leadersreceptioncranbrook@gmail.com or visit www.bcndp.ca/events.
The Leader’s Reception follows the BCNDP’s Leader’s Levee which welcomed 900 business leaders from across the province. The Cranbrook event will be similar and guests are encouraged to bring their questions.
“This will be a great opportunity to meet Adrian and talk to him about the issues that are important to your business and your community,” Blissett said.
The second event will be An Evening with Adrian Dix. The cost of tickets is $20 for the general public and $5 for students. Blissett said the ticket prices are an effort to get younger voters out to hear the message of the NDP.
“We wanted to encourage students to come,” she said.
The Evening will start at 7 p.m. following the Leader’s Reception at the Prestige Inn Ballroom. Tickets are available for that event at Lotus Books or by calling Blissett at (250) 489-3408. There will be none available at the door.
Blissett said both events will start off with a general introduction and talk about the NDP’s goals heading into the May election.
Following Dix’s day in Cranbrook he will head on to the Elk Valley where he will meet with Fernie residents for a coffee at the Art Station at 11 a.m. From there he will head to Sparwood to meet at the Steelworkers Hall at 2 p.m.
“The goal of the public event is really outreach so they can hear what Adrian has to say,” Blissett said.
Dix was last in the riding a year ago when he toured the new renovations at the College of the Rockies and spoke with students.
