The Kootenay West MLA, Katrine Conroy, spent just under $250 more than her counterpart in Nelson-Creston in July this year, according to a recently released expense report.
Conroy’s total of $3,982.62, including $784.42 in mileage, was very close to the $3,739.56 spent by Michelle Mungall.
MLAs can claim travel expenses while carrying out work within the province but not within their constituencies. This includes travel related to critic duties, caucus responsibilities and MLA business related to the legislative assembly.
They can claim for transportation and accommodation costs, as well as per diem payments for meals.
There were six NDP MLAs who spent more than Conroy, the highest being Jennifer Rice of the North Coast riding whose July expenses were more than $9,200, in part because of significant air travel.
The lowest spenders were Carole James and John Horgan, both based on Vancouver Island, who only submitted expenses for $54 each.
