Nanaimo District Secondary School students Sam Sukadana, left, Madison Baumel, Serena Hartel, Paige Arden and Carter Tan are developing an experiment they hope will fly on the International Space Station in spring 2018. The results of the experiment, to test the effect of microgravity on brassica rapa pollen tube growth, could lead to agricultural applications in space exploration, such as crops grown aboard spacecraft on deep space missions or for planet colonization.
