Nechako Nordics host ski races, regional biathlon

Perfect conditions, great turnout for the Tech #3 Northern Cup

The weather cooperated beautifully with a sunny – 4 degrees celcius and fresh snow last week making trail conditions excellent for the Tech #3 Northern Cup on Sat. Jan 20, 2018 hosted by the Nechako Valley Sporting Association.

The cross-country Teck race had 85 entries with many local athletes racing from the local jackrabbit ski program, local recreational skiers, the Nechako Nordics race group plus athletes from Caledonia Nordics in Prince George as well as clubs in Williams Lake, Quesnel and Smithers and one athlete from Yellowknife.

The biathlon mass start event had 35 entries with athletes shooting three times for the younger categories, and four times for the older categories. We had two athletes from the local club racing, Linnea Moutray (Vanderhoof) and Cody Vanwerkhoven (Fraser Lake).

It was the first time for our club to use the new timing equipment that was purchased through the Nechako Nordics Ski Club and Ripin’ the North Bike Club with grant funding from Integris Community Foundation, NKDF and NDIT. “We are grateful for their financial contributions to allow us to host these types of events locally,” says Sonya Zurevinski, NVSA. “Thanks also to all our volunteers, course marshals, timers, kitchen helpers, trail grooming team and event sponsors.”
