“Pull!” That was the word of the day at the second annual Nechako Valley Sports Association’s (NSVA) take a shot at cancer tournament which took place at the NVSA shooting range on June 22.
Take a shot at cancer is a skeet shooting competition organized by the NVSA in support of St. John Hospital’s oncology department.
In it’s inaugural tournament last year, the competition raised a total of $5, 000 for the hospital. This year’s tournament raised nearly $8, 000.
The shooting ran from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. It consisted of two categories of competition, the first being a men and women’s adult competition and the second being a men’s junior competition.
The winners for the adult men’s category were Don Bell, placing first, Tim Derksen in second place and Trevor Derksen coming in third. Winners took home a X-Bolt composite Stalke 270 rifle, a Savage 111 Trophy XP 7mm rifle and a $50 Nechako Outdoors gift card, respectively.
Winners of the men’s junior category were Vince Sewell, placing first, Cole Pritchard placing second and Leslie Vanderlaar placing first.
Alicia Heathcliff took home first place in the women’s category.
