Three people are in custody awaiting charges of possession and trafficking after the Nelson Police Department used a spike belt to stop their vehicle in the city on Feb. 28.
The rental van had been involved in two police incidents in Castlegar and Trail earlier the same day, according to a police news release.
The driver of the van tried to evade police on entering the city but was stopped in the 300 block Ward Street.
A significant quantity of fentanyl and methamphetamine were seized during the arrest. All three of the occupants of the van are known to police.
Charges of failure to stop and dangerous driving are also being considered.
The Nelson Police Department is also investigating damage to vehicles parked in the area of 700 and 800 block Vernon Street and the 300 block Cedar Street on Feb. 26, according to the same news release.
At least eight vehicles in the area were damaged, primarily by having their tires slashed, with total damage to the vehicles estimated at over $5,000.
Police are requesting the public’s assistance, asking anyone with information on these events to contact the department at 250-354-3919 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
