Nelson students rallied together to show support for their teachers on Friday after the BCTF announced earlier this week that they would be continuing their strike.

“I’m really proud of how our school came together like this,” said Chelsea Chirico, one of the student organizers whose father is a teacher in School District 8.

“We’re not a bunch of kids skipping school because we feel like it, we’re kids that are actually caring about our teachers and caring about not only our education but the education of kids for the future.”

Dozens of students gathered on Front Street in Nelson Friday afternoon signing petitions, chanting and holding signs for those driving by to see.

“Kill Bill 22,” they chanted as vehicles drove by honking their horns to show their support.

The walk out was organized by two Grade 11 L.V Rogers students, Chirico and Jenna Rigby and was met by students form Trafalgar as well.

Students from Mount Sentinal held their own walk out as well to show their support for teachers.
