New Alberni high school theatre to open

The new 500-seat theatre at ADSS is smaller and steeper than the old one but it has better acoustics, lighting and space usage.

It’s a few months overdue but the new theatre at Alberni District Secondary School is finally open.

The 500-seat theatre will be unveiled at the grand opening of the high school this Friday, Dec. 7.

School District 70 took occupancy of the theatre this week.

The new facility is more compact than its 700-seat predecessor, but it makes up for it in terms of design, acoustics, lighting, and space usage, School District secondary treasurer Jerry Linning said.

There is a control room spanning the width of the rear seating. There is a catwalk up above. And the floor has a steeper incline than that in the old theatre.

The theatre was to have opened in September. But a lag construction then lighting issues prevented it until now.
