Penguin Concessions has taken over the vending contract at Hope Arena.
After a six-month closure, concession services were reestablished over the weekend at the minor hockey atom C tournament.
“Historically, the concession at the Hope recreation centre has struggled to get by, not unlike any other small business in our community,” said recreation commission chair Lloyd Forman.
“Penguin Concessions has the experience of operating concessions, knows the business, the challenges that accompany it and the nature of a small community. It is our hope … that, in turn, they will become a fixture within our community facility.”
Penguin Concessions offers an extensive menu with a number of healthy choices. Many items are made fresh, including hamburger patties, chili and baked goods.
“Our first commitment is to provide the users of the recreation centre with great food at affordable prices,” said concession owner Debra Jonat.
“We realize that hockey, and sports in general, can be very expensive and our aim is to help make it so that a trip to the arena or rec centre doesn’t break the bank.”
