The rest of Fraser Health is seeing increases in new cases numbers

COVID-19 cases in the eastern Fraser Valley are declining after three weeks of increases.

Between March 5 and March 11, the Fraser East health service delivery area saw 248 new cases of COVID-19, compared to 367 the week before. That week saw the area become the the highest in the province for its daily rate of new COVID-19 cases.

Despite small monthly increases, the Fraser East area has actually been on an extremely gradual decrease since the beginning of December. The area, which includes Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, Agassiz-Harrison and Hope, has gone from a high of nearly 500 new cases in one week down to less than 250.

The Fraser Health region continues to make up a significant portion of the province’s new COVID-19 cases, and increases in Fraser South and Fraser North are largely the reason.

Fraser South is now in its second week of seeing more than a 1,000 cases in seven days. The area hasn’t seen cases numbers that high since the beginning of January, when it was on a steep decline from its peak of more than 1,500 cases in one week.

Fraser North is also increasing in new cases. Despite a one week decrease, the region has been moving from having the lowest rate of COVID-19 in Fraser Health to now sitting squarely above Fraser East.

Across the province, new COVID-19 cases have have remained around the same since a jump in mid-February. Fraser Health continues to make up around half of the new cases, with Fraser South making up the bulk of those. Cases there have seen an increase from 153 cases on March 5 to 207 cases on March 11.

In that same timeframe, Fraser North has gone from 85 to 103 and Fraser East has gone from 40 to 37.

Across the province, seniors are now able to book their vaccine appointments. The province has been bumping up the timeline from the original plan, and seniors aged 80 and up will be able to call in this week.
