New Democrat leader John Horgan will join seniors spokesperson Selina Robinson and health spokesperson Judy Darcy in hosting a forum for Comox Valley seniors on Friday, July 22.
The event starts at 1:30 p.m. at The Little Red Church, 2182 Comox Ave. in Comox.
“We want to hear about the challenges that seniors in the Comox Valley are facing in their daily lives. As the Christy Clark government hikes fees and taxes for regular British Columbians, many seniors across this province struggle with affordability,” said Horgan.
“We want to listen and learn from seniors across the province. Then we’ll bring these concerns back to Victoria, and we’ll fight to make life better for B.C. seniors.”
Comox is the fourth stop on the New Democrats’ Seniors Tour, which will continue to Vancouver next month. The tour has already visited Penticton, Pitt Meadows and Prince George.
“We are hearing across the province that seniors are struggling to access the government services they rely on, and they’re struggling to make ends meet. Christy Clark has put regular British Columbians last with fees and taxes that make it harder than ever for seniors to pay the bills,” said Robinson.
“British Columbian seniors need a government that will stand up for them. By hearing from people directly, we can help fight for improvements that will make their lives better.”
Darcy says many seniors in the province struggle to afford the health care they need.
“From the high cost of prescription drugs, to rising MSP premiums, to the cost of home support, the cost of health is rising in this province. For seniors, sometimes keeping the heat on can come at the expense of good health. That’s a choice no one, especially not vulnerable seniors, should have to make.”
