“We have been successful in recruiting a new doctor for Barriere,” stated Barriere Medical Clinic manager Dr. Terry Clare last Monday, “I think this will be very good for the community.”
The Medical Centre is supposed to run with three physicians on staff, but Dr. Clare and Dr. Ilke Marais have been doing double duty for some time now while searching for the third member to join their team.
Clare says the new third physician, Dr. Kravchenko, is from the Ukraine, and is currently taking the International UBC Medical Graduate Program in Alberta.
He should have completed the program near the end of July,” said Clare, “So we are hoping Dr. Karvchenko will be here near the end of August or beginning of September.”
Clare noted the new doctor has been living in Alberta for almost two years, and is married with “grown up” children.
Asked if the new physician will be staying long term Clare answered, “We certainly hope he will be willing to stay. The Return of Service Agreement is at least two years and we certainly hope he will stay longer.”
Having a full contingent of doctors on staff once again at the Barriere Medical Clinic will not only take some of the pressure off Clare and Marais, but will also have positive ramifications for those in the community who are in need of a physician.
“Having a full contingent of three doctors again at the medical centre is obviously a very good thing,” said Clare.
