Parksville is buying a new fire truck, three years after originally planned.
With two councillors absent, the rest of council unanimously supported the $474,978 lowest of three bids, going with Abbotsford’s Hub Fire Engines which supplied one of its current vehicles.
The new pumper truck will replace a 24-year-old one by the time it’s delivered, which fire chief Doug Banks pointed out is well past the recommended 15-20-year functional lifespan.
The change back to the PST/GST will cost the city more in taxes in relation to this purchase, but that will be offset by an estimated $25,000 from the sale of the old truck and the Regional District of Nanaimo will reimburse the city approximately 28 per cent of the cost for the service the city provides in French Creek and San Pariel.
