There was a time when the City of Armstrong and Township of Spallumcheen had acceleration lanes at certain turns along Highway 97A.
Then came the four-laning project of the highway through the township and city, and as a result, there are no more acceleration lanes at Smith Drive, Rosedale Avenue and Harding Road intersections.
And the mayors of both municipalities want to know why.
“Information was brought forward at our joint council meeting that both Mayor (Will) Hansma and myself were getting calls from residents asking why there were no more acceleration lanes,” said Armstrong Mayor Chris Pieper.
Both municipalities have drafted a letter to be sent to the Ministry of Transportation asking for an explanation.
“We hope to receive a letter or that someone will come to a joint council meeting to see what their answers are,” said Pieper.
There used to be a long acceleration lane for people heading south on Highway 97A at Smith Drive, and short acceleration lanes at Harding and Rosedale, said Pieper.
