New lawyer hired

Cherryville man accused as accessory after the fact in Armstrong murder remains in custody

A Cherryville man accused as an accessory after the fact in the murder of an Armstrong teen remains in custody.

But Stephen Ray Foerster, 58, will have a new lawyer for his next appearance.

Foerster announced in Vernon Provincial Court Wednesday he will be replacing Bill Firman with Vernon lawyer Richard Hewson.

Foerster, who is charged with accessory and obstruction of justice in connection with the death of Armstrong teenager Taylor Van Diest Oct. 31, 2011, asked the judicial case manager to adjourn his matter to June 13 to give Hewson a chance to get up to speed on the case.

The move was granted.

Firman was Foerster’s lawyer when he arranged for bail, which was set by a judge at $100,000. Foerster has not yet met the bail, which also includes posting two sureties.
