A Silver Star business is getting high-level support in a bid to meet customer demand.
The Regional District of North Okanagan board has supported Pinheads Bowlings’ application to the provincial government to have its liquor license changed from food primary to liquor primary.
“It’s consistent with the area. There are other drinking establishments there,” said Mike Macnabb, BX-Silver Star director.
“It’s removed from the residential area so noise is not an issue.”
Many of the clients come from jurisdictions around the world where drinking can occur while they are on the bowling lanes and they don’t understand why they can’t do so at Pinheads.
But Heather Angel, Pinheads general manager, believes the change from food primary to liquor primary will take care of that situation.
“They want to have a beer and some bowling,” she said.
“There is 10-pin bowling in Kelowna and they can drink right where they bowl.”
Angel is confident that a different liquor license won’t change the nature of the business.
“It’s a family atmosphere, it’s not a club. There’s not heavy drinking,” she said.
A decision on the application must still be made by the provincial government’s Liquor Control and Licensing Branch.
