The Old Dutch Inn — soon to be known as the Qualicum Beach Inn — is on schedule for a summer re-opening.

Co-owner Noel Hayward said they are “giving it a whole upgrade, down to the bones,” explaining they are stripping it right down and re-doing the whole thing, but not expanding the footprint.

Crews are removing three rooms from the ground floor to add a conference room that will open onto the patio and be available for anything from weddings to large meetings. They are also adding air-conditioning and completely re-doing the pool.

The property is owned by the same owners as Quality Foods, but there is no other direct connection between the companies, Hayward said.

The waterfront motel and restaurant, which was serving hot meals to those in need over the holidays, is now closed to give crews full access. They don’t have a firm date, but Hayward said they hope to be open for the summer season.
