The City of Pitt Meadows is set to begin work inside the space that will house its new library.
Under construction near city hall, the bigger and brighter library will occupy the second floor of a building in Solaris at Meadows Gate, a development by RG Properties at the corner of Harris and Ford roads.
Director of Finance Dean Rear said the city will be taking control of the space soon, then setting it up.
“It is a little bit behind schedule. But we still fully expect to be in there and doing our fit-up in the fourth quarter and be ready to go either by the end of the year or the New Year with a new space.”
The library will feature both new and old.
Wood from the Park family barn will be used on columns in the main area and wood carvings will grace its walls.
The relocation will allow the library to almost double in size, to 12,200 square feet from 7,500.
The city has signed a 10-year lease with RG Properties for the space.
Meanwhile, apartments in the first two towers of the Solaris development are nearly sold-out.
President and CEO of RG Properties Ltd. Graham Lee said there are only 15 left.
“We are very happy with the way the first two towers have gone and they’ve almost completed the second phase, which will house the library,” he added.
The office space above the library is also nearly sold out, but RG Properties is not yet ready to reveal who some of those tenants may be.
“We’ve got some good tenancies going on the ground floor, as well, which will really liven up that area,” Lee said.
The third Solaris tower will be going ahead, but no date has been set for when construction will begin.
The company is waiting for the last few units in its first two towers to be sold before it begins work on the third phase.
“We are in the planning process,” said Lee, adding that the third tower will remain 10-storeys tall, but there may be some redesign to the units inside based on feedback RG Properties has received from buyers in the first two phases.
