The Central Okanagan School District will receive $405,392 in provincial funding for the purchase of three new energy efficient school buses.
These new clean diesel buses reduce exhaust particulate emissions by 90 per cent compared to the previous 1994 standard.
The buses also obtain 30 to 60 per cent better mileage than gasoline-fueled buses, consequently providing longer service.
Currently there are approximately 1,200 buses owned and operated by school districts across the province, and another 600 buses operated by bus companies under contract.
“Kelowna will certainly benefit from these new buses. Not only do they burn significantly cleaner, but give the school district more resources to get their students to school safe and sound,” said Kelowna-Mission Liberal MLA Steve Thomson.
