Langley’s newest school will be named Richard Bulpitt Elementary when it opens in south Yorkson in September 2013.
The announcement was made in front of Bulpitt’s family members at the Langley Board of Education meeting on Tuesday night.
Bulpitt served as the Langley’s Superintendent of Schools from May 1996 until March 2001, when he retired.
Before that he worked as a teacher, principal and administrator in both Vancouver and Langley.
“Richard Bulpitt was admired by students, colleagues, and friends for his love of education and dedication to the community,” said board chair Wendy Johnson.
After retirement Bulpitt was doing missionary work when he passed away suddenly from a heart attack while on assignment with his wife in Vietnam in 2007.
Lucy Lenko, current principal at Langley Meadows, has been appointed principal at Richard Bulpitt, located at 20965 77A Avenue. Lenko said she knew Bulpitt when she was teaching in Langley and took administrative course under his leadership.
