MCLEAN BRONZE CLASP

RCMP officers from across the North District area were recognized for their service and dedication to the force in Prince George on May 12.

Among them was 100 Mile House RCMP member Sgt. Don McLean who received the 25-year Bronze Clasp for 25 years of service
 on the force.

McLean is a well-liked and well-respected RCMP member who is a valuable liaison to the Crime Stoppers of the South Cariboo and the South Cariboo AGE-FRIENDLY Initiative Committee in 100 Mile House.

 

ARTS GRANT HELPS

The 100 Mile & District Arts Council received a grant for the amount of $3,647 from the BC 
Arts Council.

“We are thankful for the grant,” says local Arts Council president Gordon Hoglund.

“It will help support our member groups and the three scholarships we award to local art students.”

The local Arts Council has some 10 member groups it supports, including the 100 Mile Festival of the Arts, the Cariboo Artist Guild and fibre art groups.

 

AQUAVAN COMING TO 108 MILE

Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre’s mobile education program, AquaVan, presented by BC Hydro and Prince Rupert LNG, will be visiting several northern communities in British Columbia from now until June 3.

It will be coming to Mile 108 Elementary School on June 1 and then travels to David Stoddart School in Clinton on June 2

AquaVan will be delivering fully interactive and immersive educational programming with the goal of inspiring students to make positive changes in aquatic conservation.

The AquaVan programs feature artifacts, activities and live marine invertebrates, such as crabs, urchins and sea stars. Youth get an up-close and personal encounter with these fascinating creatures at community and school events.

Through engaging and interactive programming, the AquaVan team encourages students to discover of the connection between animals, environments and themselves.
