One of three people charged in a major stabbing and break-in in Esquimalt has pleaded guilty to two charges.
Kirk Walter Clement, 46, pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon obtained through an offence and break-and-enter. He was sentenced to nine months in prison, but was given credit for six months already served.
Clement was also charged with robbery, possessing a restricted firearm and possessing an unlicenced firearm, but the charges were stayed with the guilty plea.
Clement ended up in hospital with stab wounds after a Jan. 14 incident in the 800-block of Admirals Rd. A tenant in the apartment building heard noises in the next door suite and went to investigate. Two people – Clement and Warren Andrew Westcott – were stabbed.
Three men fled the apartment.
More than 24 officers, including a canine unit from the West Shore RCMP detachment, responded to three crime scenes in the township after multiple 911 calls came in around 3:45 p.m. Several areas in Esquimalt were flooded with flashing police lights for hours.
Clement was eventually found inside a vehicle parked at Esquimalt Road and Lampson Street. Westcott and Terry David Desjarlais were also arrested that night.
In the investigation, police found two semi-automatic handguns, a replica handgun in a holster, handcuffs, a police badge and magazines loaded with ammo.
Police said the home invasion was a crime targeted to that residence.
Desjarlais next faces court April 2012. Westcott’s next court date is in March 2012.
