SURREY — Surrey’s massive Vaisakhi Parade on Saturday was by population like a large Canadian city without crime, according to the RCMP.
A record-breaking 350,000 people participated in the Newton event, held every April. This was its 18th year.
“No arrests. No crime,” Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann said of this year’s parade day. “Three hundred and fifty thousand people participated peacefully in this fantastic family community event.”
It’s one of the largest such celebrations in the world outside India marking the Sikhs’ new year.
This year’s event, also known as the Surrey Khalsa Day Parade, featured 19 floats.
