With the recent reports of bed bugs in libraries across the Lower Mainland, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Library System took a pro-active approach and had all 13 branches tested – including the bookmobile – for bed bugs.

“We’re happy to announce that there were no reports whatsoever from the testing,” said Kevin Kierans, Director of TNRD Library System. “We will continue to monitor the situation very closely. Our staff also underwent training as well to help educate them about this issue.”

Recently bed bugs have been reported in a number of libraries in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

While not a public health issue, the bugs can become a serious nuisance if not properly treated. The TNRD Library System branches have installed monitoring systems to quickly pick up any signs of the bugs if they are to appear.

The testing was done by Bugs-Gon Pest Control.  If you would like more information on bed bugs go to the following link: http://www.health.gov.bc.ca/protect/bedbugs.
