The cause of a fire that burned up a boat in upper North Port on Wednesday (Dec. 23) afternoon is still unknown, according to Port Alberni Fire Department deputy Chief Wes Patterson.

“It’s still undetermined,” said Patterson. No one was home at the time of the fire.

“It was a 17-18 foot boat stored in a coverall. Upon arrival, it was fully involved.”

The blaze was beginning to spread to a garden shed on the property when the PAFD’s two trucks and nine firefighters came.

“We quickly extinguished it and made sure there was no extension to the outbuilding,” said Patterson. “There were no injuries, no damage to the house but the boat is a write of.”
