Tourism Langley made a case for its continuing existence Wednesday as Langley Township council pondered creating its own tourism agency.
The Township announced in October that it may create a new tourism marketing organization, leaving Tourism Langley, which it jointly funds with Langley City.
Wednesday’s closed meeting ended without a decision, as the council voted to seek additional information.
The day of the meeting, Tourism Langley sent out an open letter encouraging the Township to “recognize the positive working relationship the organization has within the Langleys.”
The letter touted the organization’s nine years of working with both City and Township.
The effort to convince local councillors also included a letter from the Tourism Industry Association of B.C.’s chair, Jim Humphrey.
Humphrey wrote of five consecutive years of growth in tourism operations in the Langleys.
Last week, after the news broke that the Township was considering going it alone on tourism marketing, Township Mayor Jack Froese said the Township had not come to any final decision, and was considering its options.
