A new No Frills grocery store in Clover Square Village is expected to open at the end of August, a representative of Loblaw Companies Ltd. has confirmed.

Trevor Buchan, project manager with Loblaw Companies Ltd., said the store will likely open at the end of next month.

The national grocery chain is undertaking extensive renovations of the anchor property of Clover Square Village, which was home to a Marketplace IGA grocery store that closed down in February, ending 19 years of service.

For seniors and other residents of downtown Cloverdale, the news means a six-month wait for a new full-service supermarket within easy walking distance to open up in the location is nearly over.

The renovation is being carried out by Loblaw contractor Align Construction.

No Frills offers deep discounts, and sells Presidents Choice brands.

A Loblaw official said in March the company planned to spend several million dollars on renovations inside the building, a project that included new fixtures and equipment.
