Eight local fire departments battled a blazing structure fire in the 3300 block of Palmer Road in Coombs which destroyed a two-story building July 15 at 12:30 a.m.
Coombs-Hilliers Volunteer Fire Department fire chief Aaron Poirier said six people occupied the building when the fire started but everybody got out safely.
He said the source of the fire is still under investigation.
He said 40 firefighters attended the scene from fire departments in Coombs, Errington, Dashwood, Qualicum Beach, Bow Horne Bay, Nanoose Bay, Lantzville and Parksville.
Poirier said firefighters were on scene until 8:30 a.m. and the entire structure has been destroyed.
