The Ministry of Education has given a “definite no” to Langley School District’s five-year capital plan, secretary-treasurer David Green has confirmed.
Green said the ministry rejected the school district’s wish list, which included a much-needed high school in the growing Willoughby area.
“We will resubmit the plan every fall with our highest priority being the high school,” said Green on Monday.
On the top of the school district’s $84 million capital funding wish list is a new $47 million high school.
Second on the list is a a new $12 elementary school on the James Anderson school site, followed by a second storey to be put on R.C. Garnett Elementary.
The Willoughby area is the fastest-growing area of Langley Township and the number of children moving to the area far outstrips available classroom space in existing schools.
Three new schools have been built or are under construction.
