The much anticipated Nomadic Tempest presentation has arrived in the Comox Valley. From Thursday, June 28 to Sunday, July 1 the Kus-kus-sum site (known by many as the old Fields Sawmill site) will be transformed into a venue for a multi-media presentation about rising seas, climate change, and our place in it all.

Before the show?

Gates open each night at 8 p.m. Ticket holders are invited to come onto the site beforehand for a unique perspective on the estuary, the Courtenay River and the Comox Valley. Food, dessert and beverage trucks will be on site all four nights. Each night features pre-show music and performances from locals DJs, musicians and performance artists. Cumberland Brewing Company and Wayward Distillery will be serving up alcoholic beverages. Bring cash. The show starts at dusk and wraps up at about 11 p.m.

Getting there, and parking

Parking on Kus-kus-sum will be limited to vehicles with displayed accessibility permits and high occupancy vehicles (vehicles using ALL seat belts). You will be turned away if you do not fit into one of these categories. Here are the other options:

Park & walk: Park on the west side of the Courtenay River, walk over the 17th Street Bridge to a special entrance next to the 17th Street Bridge called “NORTH ENTRANCE” for people walking or biking to the site.

Cyclists:

There will be bike parking on site. Enter at either NORTH or SOUTH entrance of Kus-kus-sum.

Do not forget to bring lights for your ride home.

Park & ride: School buses will be running from two locations – St. Joseph’s Hospital parking lot in Comox, and Driftwood Mall in Courtenay.

Buses leave from these locations at 8 and 8:30 p.m. each night.

Buses will pick passengers up at the “SOUTH ENTRANCE” and return them to the parking lots after the show.

Carpool: Parking will be available on site for vehicles with 100 per cent seatbelts used. Enter the site at the “SOUTH ENTRANCE” by driving towards Comox from Courtenay so that you can make a right-hand turn onto the site.

If you live in Comox, this may mean using Back Road or Lerwick and getting onto Comox Road in West Courtenay.

Left-hand turns into Kus-kus-sum will be difficult. Please plan to approach Kus-kus-sum from Courtenay.

Bring a chair

Audiences are welcome and encouraged to bring a ‘low rider’ festival chair or blanket for close-up seating for the show. Regular seating will be available on site but if you bring your own low elevation seating you can sit right up front.
