Silver Star Mountain Resort will be opening for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking Friday

There’s good news for those wanting to strap on the skis and hit the trails.

Because of recent snow, Silver Star Mountain Resort will be opening for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking Friday. The original opening date was Saturday.

“We’re excited to be opening the ‘doors early’ on XC skiing” said Silver Star’s Nordic Programs Manager Shane Landreville.

“The industry is experiencing increased participation with baby boomers and under 35s recognizing the social and health benefits more than ever before.”

All upper trails will be open, machine groomed and track set while 90 per cent of the lower trails will be open, machine groomed and track set. The trails open from 8:30 a.m. – 3.30 p.m.

In the Village, retail, rental, repairs, tickets (including season passes), will all be open from 8 a.m. till 4 p.m. XC lessons can be pre-booked by calling Snowsports on 1.800.663.4431.

Alpine skiing is scheduled to begin Nov. 23 at Silver Star, while cross-country skiing is already underway at Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre.
