The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• April 28, 12:04 a.m., 11000-block 85A Ave.: Complainant reported loud talking that was keeping her awake. Police attended and found two individuals inside a large tent set up in a backyard. The individuals stated that they would go inside as they were not intentionally disturbing the complainant. No bylaw ticket issued.
• April 28, 5:25 p.m., 8000-block Delsom Way: Police were contacted regarding a garage door that had been left open for two days. Police attended and made contact with the resident, who advised that the family was sheltering in place due to COVID-19 and they forgot to close the door after their last food delivery. The resident was thankful.
• April 30, 12:24 p.m., 7000-block 113th Ave.: Complainant reported a theft of sunglasses from his unlocked vehicle overnight. No other items taken. A reminder to not leave valuable items in your vehicle.
• May 1, 2:45 p.m., 11800-block 64th Ave.: Complainant reported several dump trucks speeding up and down 64th Avenue, off the truck route. Police explained that the trucks were allowed on 64th as they were going directly to and from a construction site, but that officers would do speed enforcement in the area.
• May 1, 8:05 p.m., 11000-block 81A Ave.: A Delta police officer driving southbound on 116th Avenue noticed a large bonfire at the rear of a residence reaching approximately seven feet high. Delta Fire attended the scene and extinguished the fire. The homeowner was served a bylaw ticket for “unlawful open air burning.” A reminder that residential backyard burning is banned year-round.
• May 2, 9:58 a.m., 9000-block 112th St.: Police were contacted regarding three females who appeared intoxicated getting into a vehicle. Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver stated that she had not been drinking and was just picking up friends, as they had been drinking. The driver had glossy red eyes and slurred speech. The driver was administered the alcohol screening device, which read a “fail.” The driver was served a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and the car was towed.
• May 3, 12:06 a.m., 11000-block Cowley Dr.: Police received report of a loud party that had been going on for over three hours. Police attended and located five people sitting around listening to loud music. Police spoke with the resident who agreed to turn the music off and keep the noise down. The resident was warned of bylaw tickets if police were called back.
• May 3, 3:09 p.m., 8200-block Highway 17: While enforcing speeds on Highway 17, police observed a vehicle travelling at approximately 150 km/h. Front radar of the police vehicle locked the speed at 154 km/h. The driver was served a ticket for excessive speeding and the car was impounded.
• May 3, 8:30 p.m., 7000-block 112th St.: Complainant reported two males riding “pocket bikes” in the area. No further description. Area patrols were negative and police did not receive any other calls of similar nature from the area. Complainant advised to call back if the bikes return.
