The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• Aug. 31, 5:19 a.m., 7000-block Cliveden Pl.: Complainant called police advising there had been a vehicle parked in a nearby parking lot for a quite some time. Police spoke to the owner of the vehicle, who advised that his vehicle had broken down and he had parked it there overnight. Police further spoke to the complainant, advising of the outcome. The complainant stated he was only concerned as stolen vehicles were previously dumped at that nearby parking lot and that he had no issue with the vehicle remaining there until the owner organized a tow.
• Aug. 31, 8:34 a.m., 11000-block 90th Ave.: Complainant reported seeing a suspicious male peering in several windows of their townhouse complex. Police attended and spoke to the male, who advised that he was there to clean the exterior of the building on behalf of the property management company. The male was setting up the work site, wearing hi-vis safety vest and work boots.
• Sept. 3, 8:06 p.m., 11000-block Nordel Way: Police were conducting proactive patrols and operating an automatic licence plate reader when they were alerted an uninsured vehicle had passed by. Police conducted a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, who stated that her husband forgot to renew the insurance. The driver was issued a ticket for not having valid insurance and the vehicle was towed.
• Sept. 3, 10:32 p.m., 11000-block 86th Ave.: Complainant reported seeing two suspicious males in a nearby parking lot. The complainant observed the males leaning against a vehicle and noted that the gate to the parking lot was locked. Police attended and spoke to the males, who advised that their vehicle had been locked in the parking lot while they were playing basketball in the playground. Police assisted in retrieving his vehicle from the locked parking lot.
• Sept. 4, 12:23 a.m., 7000-block 120th St.: Complainant reported loud talking coming from the back alley, with vehicles coming and going. Police attended and spoke with a male, who stated that there was a party earlier in the evening but all the guests had since gone home.
• Sept. 4, 1:28 a.m., 9200-block 114A St.: Complainant reported that a male was fully reclined and apparently unresponsive in the front seat of a vehicle. Police attended and observed the male in the driver seat breathing but unresponsive to police’s verbal commands, and vomit was outside the driver-side door. After several minutes of banging on the window, shaking the car and continued verbal commands, the male awoke. Suspicion formed of intoxication and an approved screening device demand was read, resulting in a “fail” after three failed attempts to provide a sample. Police attempted three more samples but all were inadequate. The male advised he no longer wanted to provide any samples. The driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition as well as a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
