The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Aug. 31, 7:18 a.m., 8600-block 112th St.: Complainant reported their vehicle was entered sometime overnight. A wallet left in the centre console and $150 cash were stolen. The wallet contained personal and bank cards, and a driver’s licence. The bank had been contacted and all banking cards were cancelled. The complainant believes the vehicle may have been left unlocked.
• Sept. 1, 2:07 a.m., Brooke Road and Nordel Way: During a vehicle stop police located a person with the smell of liquor on their breath. As the driver failed the approved screening device test they were given an immediate 90-day roadside suspension and the vehicle was impounded. The driver also admitted to the possession of marijuana, which was seized by police for disposal.
• Sept. 1, 2:52 p.m., 11800-block 86th Ave.: The complainant reported they had left their vehicle unlocked in front of their home and when they returned in the morning they found the passenger side door ajar and the vehicle rummaged through. Items stolen include a Bear Grylls survival knife, Vision binoculars and various lottery tickets.
• Sept. 1, 3:00 p.m., 11900-block 83rd Ave.: Complainant left their vehicle in their driveway and sometime overnight it was entered and rummaged through. Several personal and bank cards plus $50 in cash were stolen. The complainant believes they may have left the vehicle unlocked.
• Sept. 1, 7:44 p.m., 90th Avenue and 120th Street: During a police stop officers found a person exhibiting signs of intoxication. As the suspect failed the approved screening device test they were given an immediate 90-day roadside suspension and the vehicle impounded. The suspect was also found to have a driving prohibition and was arrested, then released on a promise to appear in court at a future date.
• Sept. 2, 7:50 a.m., 1000-block Derwent Way: A business dispatch reported the theft of batteries from multiple trucks left in the parking lot. Four vehicles were targeted sometime overnight and eight batteries valued at $1,200 were stolen.
• Sept. 2, 12:50 p.m., 900-block Derwent Way: A business reported a theft in progress, with two suspects stealing pieces of scaffolding. When the complainant confronted the thieves as they were loading a bundle of metal pipes into the back of their vehicle they fled from the scene. Patrols of the area by police proved negative.
• Sept. 3, 8:58 a.m., 1100-block Cliveden Ave.: Complainant reported three batteries stolen from a truck parked in the compound. The battery boxes were unscrewed and the wires cut. The complainant indicated this is an ongoing issue and the incident has been reported to ICBC, and that improved security measures will be taken.
