The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Dec. 22, 7000-block Woodcrest Pl.: Complainant called police to report her car was rummaged through sometime overnight between midnight and 9 a.m. Complainant did not find anything missing nor any damage to the vehicle. The point of entry was an unlocked door.
• Dec. 23, 11700-block 74B Ave.: A suspect entered a vehicle and stole sunglasses and cologne.
• Dec. 23, 8300-block 108th St.: Complainant reported that her vehicle had been broken into overnight. She reported that the driver side window was smashed and used to gain entry into the vehicle, causing approximately $300 in damage. Nothing was stolen and only certain items had been moved around.
• Dec. 25, 8100-block 120th St.: Between Dec. 24 at 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 25, a suspect broke into the drink coolers and storage box and stole a large quantity of drinks and chocolate bars. Value of theft is estimated at $2,000.
• Dec. 25, 8300-block Delsom Way: A suspect smashed the vehicle window and stole a dash cam and iPhone 6S.
• Dec. 26, 11300-block 84th Ave.: At approximately 4:30 p.m. a man walking his dog came into the North Delta Public Safety Building to advise that a black lab was loose and had been following him. Delta police front counter staff then captured the lab named Dexter, called the number on the dog’s tag and spoke to the owners. They did not realize that he was missing from their backyard, and attended the police station to be reunited with their dog.
• Dec. 27, 1400-block Cliveden Ave.: A suspect entered the rear parking lot and gained entry into a vehicle. The vehicle contained a number of valuable tools.
• Dec. 27, 700-block Cliveden Ave.: A suspect punched the door lock of a car. The ignition was damaged but the suspect was unable to start the vehicle.
• Dec. 28, Highway 91 and Highway 17: While on patrol, police observed a vehicle parked roadside with the driver apparently asleep or unconscious at the wheel. Police observed a bag of marijuana on the driver’s lap and the keys in the ignition. After waking the driver, police performed a standard field sobriety test, which the driver performed poorly on. The vehicle was impounded and the driver sent home in a cab.
• Dec. 29, 11500-block 92nd Ave.: A suspect is believed to have accessed the unlocked doors to a Mercedes Benz then used the garage door opener from the vehicle to gain access to the garage and an unlocked BMW. A wallet was stolen as well as a pair of white Adidas sneakers.
• Dec. 29, 11200-block 91st Ave.: A complainant reported her Nissan had been broken into sometime overnight. The vehicle door may have been left unlocked. An iPod Touch was stolen, along with cash and prescription sunglasses.
