The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• Feb. 3, 9:00 p.m., 8000-block 117th St.: Police conducted a traffic stop, and upon speaking with the driver had grounds to believe the driver may possibly be intoxicated. Police preformed a breathalyzer test on the driver, resulting in an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
• Feb. 3, 9:15 a.m., 600-block Annacis Crt.: Police were called to a report of a stolen semi-trailer. The trailer was reported to be full of merchandise. Upon investigation, police were able to locate the trailer and recover all of the merchandise.
• Feb. 4, 2:16 a.m., 8600-block 120th St.: Police were conducting proactive patrols and observed a male jaywalking. Police stopped the male to speak with him and confirmed through police databases the male’s identity. Walk through of the area where the male had been found reveled damage had been done to vehicles. The male had been found with multiple tools, and drugs. Male was arrested.
• Feb. 5, 9:20 p.m., 11800-block Cascade Dr.: While on patrol, police observed a driver fail to stop while exiting a parking lot. Police attempted to make a traffic stop, however the vehicle continued on. The vehicle eventually stopped near a residence. Police were eventually able to speak with the driver. They could detect an odour of liquor emanating from the driver’s breath. After conduction a breathalyzer test, the driver was given an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days and a vehicle impoundment for 30 days.
• Feb. 5, 8:50 a.m., 9600-block 120th St.: Police observed a vehicle driving with a significant amount of snow covering its rear window, obstructing the driver’s view. Police queries reveled the owner of the vehicle had restriction on their licence and is required to display an “N” — no “N” sign was visible. Police conducted a traffic stop, and upon speaking with registered owner of the vehicle noticed a distinct odour of alcohol emanating from the driver. Police performed a breathalyzer test, and the driver was given a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and a three-day vehicle impoundment.
• Feb. 6, 1:04 p.m., 8100-block 120th St.: Police responded to a report of two males and one female shoplifting cosmetics. A loss prevention officer took the trio into custody before police attended. It was determined that many items had been paid for, but not all the items. Cosmetics that were not paid for were returned, and all three were banned from the store.
• Feb. 6, 1:40 p.m., 9000-block 120th St.: Police observed a vehicle traveling at high rate of speed, going almost double the posted speed limit. Police made a traffic stop of the vehicle, and upon speaking with the driver noticed an odour of liquor emanating from their breath. A breathalyzer test was performed, the driver was given a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and a three-day vehicle impoundment.
• Feb. 7, 10:40 p.m., 10300-block Nordel Crt.: While on proactive patrol, Police observed a male that was known to them exit a local business complex carrying a duffle bag. The male quickly dropped the duffle bag when police asked to speak with him. The male stated that the bag did not belong to him. A search of police databases revealed the male had conditions to not be possession of tools. Upon examining the contents of the bag, multiple tools were observed. The male was subsequently arrested for breaching his conditions.
• Feb. 9, 10:05 p.m., 11900-block 70th Ave.: Police observed a driver exit a parking lot of a liquor establishment and conducted a traffic stop to confirm driver sobriety. Police observed a distinct odour of alcohol emanating from the breath of the driver. A breathalyzer test was conducted, and the driver was given an immediate roadside prohibition for 90 days and a vehicle impound for 30 days.
• Feb. 9, 3:00 a.m., 10800-block Nordel Way: Police were performing a stationary roadblock, checking for driver sobriety. Police stopped a driver and observed an odour of alcohol emanating from their breath. Police conducted a breathalyzer test, and the driver was given a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
