The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department.
If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in-progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance. The following are some of the calls the Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Feb. 21, 10:17 a.m., 10100-block Nordel Court: Complainant reported the company’s Petro Pass gas card had not been received. It was subsequently found that the card had been fraudulently used for purchases totalling $557. File is still under investigation.
• Feb. 21, 9:35 p.m., 8900-block 112A St.: Complainant reported their grandparents had heard a noise downstairs and when they investigated had found that the basement door to the garage had been pried open. Further investigation found the rear exterior door to the garage had also been pried open. Nothing appeared to have been stolen.
• Feb. 22, 11:00 a.m., 11300-block 92A Ave.: Complainant advised police they were the victim of fraud. They had just sent $4,800 in iTunes gift cards to a person who indicated they were from the Canada Revenue Agency and stated the complainant must pay immediately or be arrested. Complainant is in contact with Apple in an attempt to get the money refunded.
• Feb. 23, 4:04 a.m., 11800-block 95th Ave.: Complainant reported they had just scared off two men who were inside their vehicle. The males fled the scene in an older white sedan. Police attended and found the underside plastic ignition plate removed, indicating an attempt to steal the vehicle. Police conducted patrols of the area but the suspects were not located.
• Feb. 24, 3:07 p.m., 11900-block 94th Ave.: Complainant reported their vehicle had been stolen from an automotive shop. Police attended and spoke with the owner of the business who confirmed the locked vehicle was last seen in the parking lot and they held the only set of keys. Vehicle was added to the police computer database.
• Feb. 24, 8:23 p.m., 10400-block Nordel Court: Complainant reported their truck had had the driver’s side door lock punched out and the vehicle entered and rummaged through. A pair of $80 Easyclip sunglasses was stolen. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $300.
• Feb. 24, 11:12 p.m., 11800-block 95th Ave.: Complainant reported that they last observed their locked vehicle in front of their residence at 11 p.m. and on checking at 11:30 p.m. the vehicle was gone. Vehicle, valued at approximately $2,500, was entered on the police database.
• Feb. 26, 11:04 a.m., 11400-block 93rd Ave.: Complainant reported to police that a suspicious vehicle was parked outside their home. The complainant observed two suspects switching vehicles and leaving the car roadside. Police confirmed the vehicle left behind was on file as stolen in Surrey. The vehicle was towed from the scene and the owner has been informed.
• Feb. 26, 8:39 a.m., 9300-block 115A St.: Complainant reported they left their truck parked on the street over- night and in the morning the vehicle was gone. A query of the vehicle revealed that at 2:30 a.m. it was involved in a fail-to-stop incident. Vehicle was entered as stolen on the police database.
