North Delta crime beat: week of Jan. 31

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends and other files of interest.

The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department.

If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in-progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls the Delta Police responded to in the previous week:

• Jan. 31, 3:17 p.m., 11100-block River Rd.: Complainant reported that sometime over the past month their detached locked shed was entered and several tools and a blower were stolen. As the shed received no damage, the complainant concluded they may have left the shed unsecured.

• Jan. 31, 9:45 a.m., 500-block Derwent Way: Complainant reported a male in a red pickup truck entered the lockup’s storage unit and stole the mail that had just been delivered to the mailbox. Canada Post has been contacted with information regarding the theft. Police to continue investigation with information of a possible suspect.

• Feb. 1, 12:30 p.m., 10300 Nordel Court: Complainant reported their vehicle broken into while parked at the Great Pacific Forum – Planet Ice. The driver’s side door lock had been punched out but nothing appeared to have been stolen.

• Feb. 2, 11:58 a.m., 11600-block 89th Ave.: Complainant reported their lawnmower was missing from their backyard shed and believed the suspect to be their tenant as there was no sign of forced entry. Police spoke with the tenant, who claimed they had taken the mower for repair. Further investigation found the tenant had outstanding warrants and they were subsequently arrested.

• Feb. 2, 7:18 p.m., 11100-block Beverly Dr.: Report received from complainant that someone had entered their residence through an unlocked rear door and stolen several electronic items. Neighbourhood inquiries by police failed to produce a suspect.

• Feb. 3, 12:34 p.m., 8600-block Shepherd Way: Complainant reported their bicycle stolen from their back porch sometime over the past several days. The bike is described as an older blue/purple Barletta 12-speed.

• Feb. 3, 9:36 a.m., 10700 Delsom Cres.: Property manager reported the clubhouse had been broken into and several items, including a computer, were stolen. Once the thieves were inside the building, several doors were forced open. However, no alarms were triggered.
