North Delta crime beat: week of July 16

A selection of property crimes submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department

The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:

• July 16, 7:01 p.m., 6500-block Kempson Cres.: Complainant reported they were out of town and when they returned they found their white ski boat and trailer worth $15,000 had been stolen from their residence. The lock on the boat had been cut and left behind. The boat is described as a 1992 17-foot Glastron Carlson with a Mercury Motor attached and a 1992 Zieman trailer.

• July 17, 12:41 p.m., 7700-block Boynton Pl.: Complainant reported the theft of three rings valued at $25,000. The rings were in open view on the counter in the bathroom. The victim believes the suspect entered the home through the unlocked front door while all the family were in the backyard having a barbecue.

• July 17, 8:27 p.m., 8800-block 119th St.: The principal of the school reported that both front and back plates were stolen from the school bus parked in an open access parking lot at the school. Information regarding the licence plates was added to the police computer database.

• July 18, 6:44 a.m., 80th Street Connector: Police observed a vehicle tailing them and then changing lanes with a signal and speeding past at an estimated 120 km/hr. The vehicle was paced and stopped travelling at 140 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone. The driver was given a vehicle ticket for driving at an excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded.

• July 18, 3:22 p.m., 6900-block Nicholson Rd.: Complainant reported they received a voicemail from CRA stating they owed $4,000 and if they did not pay they would be arrested. The complainant called back and provided some personal information but realizing they may have been victim of fraud did not provide any banking information.

• July 18, 8:42 p.m., 11300-block 86A Ave.: Complainant reported they were the victim of a CRA scam. They received a call from CRA advising they owed $5,000 and if they did not pay a warrant would be issued for their arrest. The complainant purchased $5,000 in iTunes gift cards and provided the serial numbers for $1,000 worth of them to the caller before realizing they were the victim of fraud.

• July 21, 4:24 p.m., 7300-block 120th St.: Complainant reported they left their bicycle in front of a business and when they returned they found the bike had been stolen. The bicycle is described as a Rocky Mountain Soul 700.

• July 21, 7:26 p.m., 6500-block Wade Rd.: Complainant reported their unlocked vehicle left in their driveway was entered and rummaged through. Items stolen include two pairs of sunglasses and a dash cam.

• July 21, 10:51 a.m., 9800-block River Rd.: Security reported the theft of wires from an abandoned business. Police arrived at the scene and located a person dressed all in black who responded to the police commands. The person was identified, arrested and transferred to police cells.

• July 23, 11:59 a.m., 10100-block Swenson Way: Complainant reported they left their vehicle in the parking lot of a business and when they returned they found the vehicle had been entered. Access was gained through a partially open rear window. A white Apple Wireless Airpod valued at $245 was stolen.
