The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance. The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• July 25, 9:49 a.m., 1400-block Derwent Way: An employee of a business reported that sometime overnight the battery had been stolen from their locked company vehicle parked in the northeast corner of the business parking lot. Battery was valued at $140.
• July 25, 12:14 p.m., 11900-block 92nd Ave.: Complainant reported they parked their vehicle in front of their residence overnight and when they returned in the morning they found the driver’s side door had been punched and the vehicle entered. Items stolen valued at $2,000 include a Fat-Max drill and circular saw, Mikita drills and a tool bag.
• July 25, 5:05 p.m., 10050-block River Way: Complainant reported a black 1997 Ford Expedition was stolen from the street. The vehicle had been left for several days while the complainant was on a road trip. The vehicle was valued at $2,500 and contained camping equipment in the trunk.
• July 26, 3:26 p.m., 11300-block 75th Ave.: Complainant reported that they were contacted over the phone in response to an ad they had posted online looking for a roommate and was requested to e-transfer $2,000 to the caller. The transfer of funds was made before the complainant realized they were the victim of rental fraud. All accounts were shut down and information regarding the fraud was entered in the police computer database.
• July 26, 4:06 p.m., 11300-block 84th Ave.: A report was received from a complainant that funds were missing from their bank account and they suspected their roommate. They requested police assistance. Prior to police involvement the complainant indicated that their roommate had admitted to the incident and that a peaceful resolution had been reached. Police were satisfied with the solution.
• July 26, 10:15 p.m., 9200-block Forest Pl.: Complainant reported that over the past two months several tools and small items had gone missing from their unlocked garage. Items missing include a battery charger, battery booster, electric grinder and a licence plate. Complainant was advised that they should lock all the garage’s doors.
• July 28, 9:30 a.m., 11500-block 87th Ave.: Complainant reported they heard a breaking sound in front of their home and when they investigated they discovered one of the lamp stands at the front of the residence had been broken. The lamp, valued at $250, on the top of a metal post was completely missing.
• July 28, 2:38 p.m., 10100-block River Rd.: A business reported a break-and-enter to their workplace while they were absent from the premises. Suspects ripped the tarp from the back of the building, which is situated in a tent. A Smith brand welding torch valued at $500 was stolen.
• July 30, 9:26 a.m., 800-block Cliveden Ave.: Complainant reported three batteries were stolen from their truck while it was parked at a repair company overnight. No damage to the truck or wires.
