The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• June 5, 8:52 a.m., 1400-block Cliveden Ave.: The manager of a business reported that sometime overnight someone had stolen $1,200 worth of Bryers ice cream from two fleet vehicles left in the business parking lot. The locks on the exterior compartments had been cut in order to access the ice cream. Damage to the vehicles is estimated at $100.
• June 7, 2:58 p.m., 1100-block Derwent Way: Complainant reported they were approached by a vehicle with two occupants who indicated they were visiting from Dubai and needed some gas money and would leave a gold necklace and ring as collateral. The complainant agreed and provided the suspects with $60 cash. The complainant subsequently discovered this was a scam and the necklace and ring were fake.
• June 8, 1:00 a.m., 7100-block 115A St.: Complainant reported they left their locked vehicle parked on the street and when they returned they found the passenger window smashed and their work bag stolen. The work bag contained their credit card and several items of clothing. A check by the complainant of their online bank account revealed the stolen credit card had been used to make two fraudulent transactions. The credit card was subsequently cancelled. Police investigation to continue.
• June 8, 2:32 p.m., 6900-block 120th St.: Complainant reported they left their vehicle in the parking lot of a business and when they returned two hours later the vehicle was gone. The vehicle is described as a white 1992 Honda Accord with a crack running the full length of the windshield. Information regarding the vehicle was added to the police computer database.
• June 10, 4:10 a.m., 640o0-block McKenzie Dr.: Complainant reported the break-in to the shed at their home, which is under construction. The door to the shed had been pried open and $2,000 worth of power tools were stolen.
• June 10, 2:30 p.m., 1700-block Cliveden Ave.: Complainant reported they left a bio-acoustic monitor in the greenspace and when they returned they found the monitor had been stolen. The monitor and ultrasonic microphone were being used to monitor the bat population. The monitor, valued at $1,492, is very job specific and would not be of any value to anyone. Pictures of the stolen item to be disseminated to the force and added to the police computer database.
• June 10, 7:12 p.m., 7900-block 120th St.: Report received from complainant that their wallet was stolen from their purse while they were in a local business. The wallet is described as a $500 Ferragamo wallet and contains their ID and bank card. Police to continue investigation.
• June 11, 11:41 a.m., 1200-block Derwent Way: A business reported that in the early hours of the morning four rolls of electric cable were stolen from the locked compound. Suspects cut a section of the chain link fence and entered an unlocked storage container. Stolen items valued at approximately $1,000. Police recommended additional lighting and the removal of vegetation near the fence line.
• June 11, 9:06 p.m., 8900-block 112th St.: Complainant reported they fell victim to a fraudulent call from the Canadian Revue Agency convincing them to submit funds or they would be arrested and deported. The complainant purchased $428 in gifts cards and provided the caller with the gift card numbers before they learned from a friend that they were the victim of fraud.
• June 12, 5:39 a.m., 11600 92nd Ave.: Complainant reported the theft sometime after midnight of their parent’s vehicle from the driveway at their residence. There was no broken glass at the scene and the suspects may have used a spare set of keys which were kept in the vehicle. The vehicle is described as a blue 2007 Honda Civic. Information regarding the vehicle was added to the police computer database.
