The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department.

The following are some of the calls the Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• March 28, 10:41 a.m., 11400-block 86A Ave.: Complainant received a call from a person claiming to be Microsoft Support telling them their computer was hacked. The complainant followed the caller’s directions and downloaded the program “TeamViewer,” which allowed the caller to gain remote access to their computer. The caller then demanded the complainant transfer $1,900 to the caller in order to regain control of their computer. The complainant complied and sent the funds to a location in Florida before realizing they had been the victim of fraud.
• March 28, 11:32 a.m., 10100-block Nordel Crt: A business reported the fraudulent use of two of the company’s fuel cards. The cards were used 42 times. Details have been sent to the gas company’s fraud department for investigation.
• March 29, 7:42 a.m., 700-block Hampstead Close: A business reported that gas had been stolen from one of their trucks while parked in their unfenced yard sometime overnight. There was no damage to the truck but approximately 100 gallons of gas valued at about $550 was stolen.
• March 29, 9:40 a.m., 11900-block 88th Avenue: The shopping centre contacted police regarding ongoing incidents of tagging and graffiti at the centre. Police investigated the scene and photographed multiple tags and graffiti along exterior walls of several buildings. Photos to be added to police files for further investigation.
• March 29, 9:50 a.m., 9200-block River Rd.: A business reported the theft of a Hyundai trailer with an Alberta license plate from their lot. The trailer has been added to the police national computer database.
• March 29, 7:20 p.m., 9100-block Norum Rd.: Complainant reported their vehicle was entered overnight, and Oakley sunglasses, snow chains and small change were stolen. The complainant believes they likely left the vehicle unlocked as there was no damage. A next-door neighbour also reported items had been stolen from their vehicle the same night.
• March 29, 7:32 p.m., 9100-block Norum Cres.: Complainant reported their vehicle parked in the driveway had been broken into sometime overnight, and a phone charge cord and a Magellan Maestro GPS were stolen. There was no damage to the vehicle.
• March 30, 1:37 a.m., 600-block Cliveden Ave.: A business reported that sometime overnight suspects broke the door lock on a delivery van and stole $1,300 worth of various food supplies and a $600 aluminum dolly. The suspects appeared to be familiar with the company vehicles.
• April 1, 10:49 a.m., 9500-block 117A St.: Complaint reported that sometime overnight their vehicle had been broken into by smashing the rear driver’s side window. Nothing appears to have been stolen.
