The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• March 29, 9:30 p.m., 1100-block 88th Ave.: The building manager for the residential dwelling called in to report the complex’s mailboxes were found forced open. There was no visible damage to the external door and no evidence of forced entry to the lobby. Residents of the building were encouraged to report suspicious events and persons in the building.
• March 31, 4:00 p.m., 1500-block Cliveden Ave.: Complainant called in to report a number of vehicles that were broken into while parked in an open parking lot at a local business. All vehicles were registered to the business. Total loss and damage to vehicles was around $8,000.
• March 31, 1:12 p.m., 1300-block Cliveden Ave.: A local business owner called police with a late report of a break and enter to the property. The break and enter occurred sometime over the previous weekend. The caller stated someone had cut a hole in the wire fence in order to enter the property. Numerous items stolen from the vehicles on the property. The staff at the business had repaired the vehicles and the fence before contacting the police which left nothing suitable for the forensic identification section to examine.
• March 31, 8:30 p.m., 7000-block Nicholson Rd.: Police received a call from a local resident who was reporting a break and enter to an outdoor shed on the property. Police attended and cleared the shed and residence. Upon investigation it looks like a tool was used to break the lock of the shed door.
• April 3, 12:49 p.m., 8800-block 119th St.: Complainant reported an act of vandalism that had occurred overnight. Someone had climbed onto the roof of the building and spray painted the window pane in white with Bible verses and profane language. The markings have since been removed from the property.
• April 3, 5:30 p.m., 1100-block 88th Ave.: Police were called to a local residence to investigate a mischief to the building. A window had been struck with a metal pellet from a BB gun. Police canvassed the area to look for similar damage to other residences as well as witnesses and other evidence.
• April 4, 10: 22 p.m., 8800-block 118A St.: A suspect broke into the building and stole mail from internal mail boxes. A freezer room was also broken into, and numerous frozen foods were stolen. Value of the theft is unknown and no serious damage was done to the building.
