The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• March 29, 1:46 a.m., 7700-block 112th St.: Police were conducting proactive patrols in the area when they observed a vehicle cross over the centre line multiple times. Police searched the licence plate in the system, revealing that the insurance has been terminated since December 2020. A traffic stop was initiated and an indication of liquor consumption was observed on the driver. An approved screening device demand was read and the driver provided two samples, both resulting in a “fail.” The driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition as well as a 30-day vehicle impoundment. The driver was also issued a violation ticket for failing to produce/no insurance issued.
• March 30, 10:47 a.m., 7600-block 120th St.: Police observed two vehicles travelling in tandem beside each other southbound. Both vehicles were matching each other, increasing speed for speed while looking at each other. Both drivers observed police and quickly turned onto another street. Police conducted a traffic stop on both vehicles. The one vehicle was issued violation tickets for driving without consideration, having tinted windows and making an unsafe U-turn, and was issued a seven-day vehicle impoundment for street racing. The other driver was issued a violation ticket for not having insurance, having the wrong licence plate and driving without consideration, and was issued a seven-day vehicle impoundment for street racing.
• April 1, 3:02 a.m., Cliveden Avenue and Audley Boulevard: Police observed a vehicle driving at an obvious high rate of speed northbound on the Alex Fraser Bridge. Police paced the vehicle at 150 km/h in a 70 km/h zone and the vehicle was pulling away. Police conducted a vehicle stop and issued the driver an excessive speeding ticket as well as a seven-day vehicle impoundment.
• April 1, 3:35 a.m., 9000-block 120th St.: Complainant reported loud music coming from a nearby residence. Police attended and spoke with the resident, who was apologetic and stated that he was unaware the noise was heard throughout the other units. The resident remained co-operative and turned the music off for the evening.
• April 2, 4:18 p.m., location withheld: Complainant made a report of their parcel being stolen from the front patio of their residence. The incident was observed on video footage where the complainant recognized the suspect as a landlord of another duplex. The complainant did not wish to pursue charges, however asked for his parcel to be returned. Police attended the landlords’ residence, where they admitted to taking the package in error. The landlord was instructed to immediately return the package to the owner, which they did. Police explained the possible consequences to the landlord, which they stated they understood
• April 4, 10:52 a.m., 8000-block 114th St.: Complainant reported a female was in a store putting items into a black tote bag. Police attended and saw the female running eastbound through a parking lot. Police located the female and seized the stolen goods. The female was released without charges but was given a trespass warning.
• April 4, 3:15 p.m., 11600 Kittson Pky.: Complainant reported that she saw two young boys running alone in a nearby park. Police attended and learned that the boys were found by their mother. The mother stated that the boys had ran down a trail in the wrong direction. Police ensured that both the boys were accounted for and confirmed their well-being. The mother stated that she had already counselled the boys about leaving her sight.
