The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department.

The following are some of the calls the Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• May 18, 9:06 a.m., 9000-block Hayward Pl.: A report came in about a vehicle being broken into overnight while it was parked in the complainant’s driveway. Items stolen include a purse containing the complainant’s passport, credit cards and cheques, as well as a pawn shop slip. The suspect later visited the pawn shop and retrieved $300 worth of jewelry.
• May 19, 12:12 p.m., 11900block 95A Ave.: Complainant reported to police that their rear license plate was missing. The plate is considered to be stolen as it had been securely attached and the screws were also missing. It is unknown where the plate was stolen as the complainant drove between two locations before discovering the theft.
• May 19, 9:54 p.m., 8600-block 120th St.: Police responded to a report of a fraud involving a phone scam. The complainant was contacted by several different persons claiming the complainant had won a $300,000 prize and that they would receive the money after forwarding $1,768 in Western Union money orders.
• May 20, 2:49 p.m., 400-block Audley Blvd.: A vehicle was reported stolen out of a business parking lot. The suspect stole the keys from the complainant’s workplace, which was insecure. Someone from a neighbouring business observed a suspicious person wandering around the property just before the vehicle was reported missing. Items in the vehicle include insurance papers and a black Garmin GPS valued at $250.
• May 21, 1:59 p.m., 11000-block 82A Ave.: Complainant reported the window of their father’s vehicle had been smashed, resulting in $300 worth of damages. The complainant also stated that a similar incident had happened in the past but they had not reported it.
• May 22, 2:43 p.m., 9000-block 114th St.: A report was made regarding the theft of both plates and a decal from a vehicle sometime between May 16 and May 19. The vehicle was parked on the street near the complainant’s place of residence.
