The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. The following are some of the calls the Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Nov. 2, 1:03 p.m., 1500-block Cliveden Ave.: An employee of a business reported the theft of an expensive piece of geotechnical equipment from a trailer parked there. Access to the trailer was gained by prying open a locked door. No witnesses or suspects.
• Nov. 4, 10:21 p.m., 1500-block Cliveden Ave.: Complainants reported that sometime overnight someone broke into the battery box of a business van left in the parking lot and stole a battery valued at $200. Complainants informed police they are looking for a secure parking area for their van.
• Nov. 4, 9:54 a.m., 8400-block 120th St.: Complainant reported her credit card, which was stolen along with her vehicle, was used and rejected for two withdrawals at a banking location. Police requested video surveillance from the bank in order to identify the suspect.
• Nov. 4, 5:04 p.m., 11900-block 90th Ave.: Complainant reported three credit cards missing from his wallet had been used at various retailers for approximately $20,000 worth of unauthorized purchases. Complainant is unsure how or when the credit cards were stolen or lost from his wallet. Police requested complainant provide them with information as to where the cards were used in order to obtain video surveillance.
• Nov. 4, 9:45 a.m., 10400 Nordel Crt: Manager of a business contacted police to advise them that someone had cut a large hole in the chain link fence of the business and cut the locks off a storage trailer sometime during the night. A large Rigid Tool brand pipethreader valued at $5,000 was stolen.
• Nov. 5, 8:00 a.m., 8400-block 118A St.: Complainant reported someone had entered his unlocked van parked in front of his residence and stolen his wallet. The theft occurred in late September and was not reported to police until the complainant found a credit card had been used to make several fraudulent purchases for large amounts. The police and bank continue to investigate the fraud.
• Nov. 5, 1:57 p.m., 600-block Belgrave Way: Complainant reported he had just observed a male taking batteries with out permission and loading them into his vehicle. Police were provided with the license plate number and description of the vehicle. The complainant also provided police with cellphone video which showed a male and female fleeing from the scene. Police investigation found that the suspect is of no fixed address and is subject to several outstanding arrest warrants. Investigation continues.
• Nov. 5, 7:17 p.m., 11300 89th Ave.: Complainant reported a break-and-enter at his home. Police attended and found the suspects had likely entered through a back patio door. There were no signs of forced entry. Numerous bedrooms throughout the residence had been ransacked and approximately $40,000 worth of items were stolen including jewellery, three iPads and cash. Forensic officers attended and processed the scene.
• Nov. 6, 7:20 a.m., 11400-block 83rd Ave.: Complainant reported someone had smashed his upper living room and lower basement windows with rocks. The complainant had heard a loud noise in the night but did not investigate as he assumed it was just the cats. The complainant has no issues with anyone and has no idea why his home was attacked.
