The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Oct. 25, 2:29 p.m., 3300-block 72nd St.: Complainant left their vehicle parked at the dyke for a couple of hours and when they returned found that the vehicle had been entered and five packs of cigarettes and $12 in loose change had been stolen. There was no sign of forced entry but the complainant believes they had left the vehicle locked.
• Oct. 26, 7:05 p.m., 7800-block 108th St.: Complainant reported their Facebook account had been hacked and they had several conversations with what they thought was Facebook technical support. The complainant provided their personal information and $3,700 worth of iTunes cards to “technical support” before they realized they were the victim of fraud.
• Oct. 27, 5:02 p.m., 11400 89A Ave.: Complainant reported that sometime overnight unknown suspect(s) had stolen the rear license plate from their vehicle. License plate was entered into the police data base.
• Oct. 27, 11:22 p.m., 7200-block 112A St.: Complainant reported that their grey 1999 Honda Civic was stolen from their driveway sometime overnight. The vehicle has silver aftermarket low-profile rims and tires and Telus television and internet boxes in the trunk.
• Oct. 28, 12:35 p.m., 7000-block 120th St.: Loss prevention officers at a business arrested a suspect for stealing three bottles of rum. Police attended and found the suspect to be in breach of conditions. The suspect was arrested, transported to police cells and held for a show cause hearing.
• Oct, 29, 8:36 a.m., 11800-block Lyon Rd.: Complainant reported that sometime overnight the back window of their vehicle was smashed. A rock was found on the back seat. The vehicle was still locked and nothing was missing from inside.
• Oct. 29, 4:51 a.m., 7000-block Nicholson Rd.: Police found an unoccupied vehicle crashed into the bushes beyond the sidewalk. The driver was located, arrested and taken to police headquarters, where breath samples were provided. The driver was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date, and the vehicle was impounded.
• Oct. 29, 4:24 p.m., 11800-block 96th Ave.: Complainant reported that sometime overnight four vehicles parked in their driveway were damaged. Each vehicle had a single large dent in the hood. Total damage is approximately $1,000.
• Oct. 30, 10:30 a.m., 800-block Cliveden Ave.: Police attended a business following the report of the theft sometime overnight of three batteries from three trucks parked in the back lot. No witnesses or suspects were located by police. The batteries are valued at approximately $1,500.
