The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:
• Oct. 26, 12:20 p.m., 8800-block 120th St.: Complainant reported that he was involved in a motor vehicle incident and that the driver of the other vehicle was confused and would not provide his information. Police attended and learned that one of the vehicles made a wide right turn while exiting the store parking lot, resulting in the vehicle side swiping the other vehicle. The turning vehicle sustained minimal damage while the other vehicle sustained substantially more damage. There were no injuries to either party and the police facilitated the exchange of driver information.
• Oct. 26, 1:53 p.m., 7100-block 120th St.: Complainant called police to report a theft of ice cream at a grocery store. Police located the male and recovered the stolen ice cream. Along with ice cream, the police found additional stolen merchandise. The male was released as the complainant did not wish to pursue charges but was banned from the store.
• Oct. 29, 6:20 a.m., 10500-block Nordel Way: Police were conducting on-foot laser enforcement and noticed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was found to be going 116 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver was given an excessive speeding ticket and the vehicle was then towed.
• Oct. 29, 8:43 a.m., 7000-block 120th St.: Complainant reported a male had been urinating in a parking lot. Police attended and located the male and conducted a vehicle stop. The male admitted to urinating outside of his vehicle and, although he was approximately 15 metres from a public washroom, stated he was unable to make it inside to use the facility. The male was given a bylaw notice.
• Oct. 30, 4:31 p.m., Cowley Drive: Complainant called police to report that his neighbour had been videotaping him while he was in his yard. Police attended and spoke to the complainant, who stated he did not know why the neighbour would be filming him, but he wanted her to stop. Police spoke with the neighbour who advised that she was filming the complainant because he was blowing the leaves from his yard across the street onto hers. Both parties were advised of each other’s concerns.
• Oct. 31, 8:11 p.m., 6500-block McKenzie Dr.: Police received a 911 call from a residential line and upon call back was advised that a young child was playing with the phone and dialed in error. Police attended and spoke to the parent and confirmed there were no issues. Reminder: If possible please stay on the line if 911 is dialed in error so call-takers can confirm your well-being.
• Oct. 31, 2:29 p.m., 11900-block 85A Ave.: Complainant notified the police of a bike found in a bush near his residence. The complainant advised that he had never seen the bike prior to today and police informed him to refer anyone who comes back looking for their bike to speak to Delta Police.
• Oct. 31, 11:42 p.m., 7600-block 112th St.. Police received report of fireworks being set off in a gravel filed. Police attended but the fireworks operators were gone on arrival. No visible property damage.
