The purpose of the Crime Beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in North Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.
The following are some of the calls Delta Police responded to in the previous week:
• Sept. 14, 8:18 a.m., 6100-block 120th St.: Complainant reported that sometime overnight the front passenger window of their vehicle was pried and smashed. Two cell phone batteries, a pair of gloves and about $20 in change were stolen.
• Sept. 16, 11:21 a.m., 6800-block Bauer Rd.: Complainant reported the theft sometime overnight of a MacBook laptop from their unlocked vehicle. The MacBook is valued at $2,500 with accessories valued at $100. Canvass of the neighbourhood by police proved unsuccessful.
• Sept. 16, 7:41 a.m., 6500-block Sunshine Dr.: Complainant reported their vehicle was broken into sometime overnight. The vehicle was believed to have been locked but no point of entry was discovered. Items stolen from the vehicle include a black and red Giant mountain bike, a Blackberry cell phone and a credit card. An unsuccessful attempt was made to use the stolen credit card.
• Sept. 16, 8:12 a.m., 6500-block McKenzie Dr.: Complainant reported their vehicle was broken into sometime overnight. The suspect(s) gained entry by smashing the passenger side window. Items stolen include a purse and a Microsoft cell phone. Extensive neighbourhood canvass by police proved unsuccessful.
• Sept. 16, 12:04 p.m., 11100-block Monroe Dr.: Complainant reported his unlocked vehicle was entered overnight and a set of house keys and a hat were stolen.
• Sept. 16, 9:05 p.m., 11200-block 64A Ave: Complainant reported that sometime overnight the vehicle was rummaged throughout and their wallet was stolen. The wallet contained bank and credit cards, which had been used to make a fraudulent transaction before being cancelled by the complainant. Police located the wallet which was returned to the complainant.
• Sept. 16, 2:15 a.m., 9400-block 120th St.: Police conducted a traffic stop wherein the driver indicated they had consumed a couple of drinks two hours previous. Two requests by police for breath samples were refused by the suspect, and as a consequence the driver was given an immediate roadside suspension, a ticket, and had their vehicle impounded.
• Sept. 17, 12:40 p.m., 7000-block 120th St.: A business reported a person had entered the store, selected a $23 bottle of vodka and left the store without paying. The business is attempting to identify the suspect.
