An early morning fire Thursday in Armstrong resulted in more than 300 Armstrong and Spallumcheen residents being without power.

According to B.C. Hydro’s website, residents ast of Otter Lake Cross Road and south of Pleasant Valley Road lost their power just before 5 a.m. when a power pole on Smith Drive in Armstrong caught fire.

Fire crews were on the scene but the pole fire was described as minimal by fire chief Ian Cummings.

“There was nothing our guys could do,” said Cummings. “We were just making sure nobody got close to the wires.”

The cause of the fire was not known Thursday morning.

Hydro is hoping to have the power restored by 11 a.m.
